The most effective way to improve the performance of any team is to improve the defence, and to concede fewer goals. This course looks at the in-depth analysis of how University of Nottingham went from conceding an average of 4 goals a game in Phase One of the National Premier League to one goal per game in Phase Two. Through extensive video illustration, it will highlight the technical and tactical changes that underlay this transformation.

Course Leaders
Matt Taylor
Matt Taylor is the current head coach of Nottingham University, who won the BUCS championships in 2014-15, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24. He was previously head coach of Beeston HC in the Men’s Premier Division, winning three championships between 2010-2014. He has also helped developed 80+ junior players gain presentative honours for the National Age Squads as well as having coached 45+ senior Internationals. As a player Matt won seven Championship titles with Cannock HC.
