This is a course for experienced coaches of school Sevens, who seek to maintain an awareness of what is happening at the top level of the international game. It will be extensively illustrated by video of the world’s top teams, with analysis of what is currently effective and how teams develop these styles of play. It will explain contemporary strategies and modern training methods and explore how these can be adopted and adapted to make school teams more effective

Course Leaders
Mike Friday
Mike Friday was the Head Coach of USA Eagles for ten years from 2014 to 2024. This includes three Olympic Games, most recently in Paris. He made them a core team in the World Rugby Sevens Series, finishing 2nd in 2019. He had previously led England to victory in the Hong Kong sevens, Commonwealth Games silver medal and World Series second place. During his short tenure as Head Coach of Kenya, they achieved an unprecedented 5th place in the world and a World series final. He is described by ‘The Guardian’ as “a professor of the shortened game”.
