Cricket for Girls: Introduction to Softball Cricket

    Girls’ Cricket is one of the fastest growing games in schools.  The majority of schools have now adopted it, often as the primary game of the summer term.  More teachers are being required to teach, coach and umpire the game than ever before.  This is a course for those people – men and women – who are developing inexperienced cricketers, through the soft ball game.  Lydia Greenway’s ‘Cricket for Girls’ programme is the longest established course for inexperienced coaches in schools.  It requires no previous knowledge of the game, and will introduce all skills, game types and relevant rules to enable teachers to deliver exciting, fast moving sessions and prepare their players for school matches.

    • Achieving a basic understanding of Cricket
    • Adopting an engaging and exciting approach to the game
    • Introducing and developing batting shots
    • Bowling straight and effectively
    • Fielding and wicket keeping
    •  Understanding fielding positions and tactics
    • Become more familiar with the terminology used in Cricket
    • A range of fun and engaging drills for pupils to practice the skills
    • Different types of games for varying ages and abilities
    • Run a pairs cricket match
    • Umpiring and scoring a school match

    Course runs 10am – 3.30pm. Prices include refreshments, lunch and resources. In the event of you needing to cancel a place on a course, please note we require ten working days' notice. All prices exclude VAT.

    Course Leaders

    Lydia Greenway

    Lydia represented England during a career spanning 13 years with 225 appearances in all formats of the game. One of the most capped players to play for England. Lydia played an integral part in winning both the 50 over  and T20 ICC World Cups in 2009. Lydia is also a five times Ashes winner. Since retiring Lydia has built and developed Cricket for Girls which specialises in supporting schools and clubs in the development of women and girls cricket. Lydia also coaches at the elite level, she is the Mumbai Indians fielding coach in the Womens Premier League and previously worked with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash as assistant coach. Lydia also launched the Female Cricket Store in June 2020 and continues to commentate on the game for both Sky and BBC.
