College Beau Soleil

The school is an international co-educational boarding school for 11-18 year located in the Swiss Alps. The focus of the school is to balance a stimulating academic education with the wider opportunities to develop personal skills arising from the broad outdoor expedition, sports and service programme on offer. The school offers educational programmes in both English and French, offering the IGCSE and IB programme within the International Section and, for the French Section, the French Brevet and Baccalaureate programme. The students attending Beau Soleil come from up to 50 different countries and have high aspirations regarding their academic and university choices. The student body is currently 240 students.

Sports at Beau Soleil

Sports on offer: the school sports on offer are subject to variation; however the programme of sports should include:

Basketball, Running, Swimming, Volleyball, Tennis, Indoor Climbing, Swimming, Badminton, Football, Dance;
A full programme of alpine skiing during the winter term
Physical Education (PE) is offered within the examination subjects at both IGCSE and within the French Baccalaureate.
The school also offers a wide range of clubs from mountain biking to sailing.
In addition, and separately managed, the school has an extensive outdoor education programme led by the Head of Outdoor Education.

The ski resort provides the opportunity for all students to follow a programme of a weekly ski day, weekend skiing, and training for Apline, X-C, Freestyle, etc.

Staffing:

2.5 full time trained teachers; line management by Director of Sports and PE; supported by professional coaches, a fitness coach and, in the ski season, ski school staff.

Teaching days: all sports teachers are full time (5.5 days a week) including Saturday

Qualifications:

needs to be trained as a PE teacher, with PGCE (UK) or national equivalent
must be competent skier with ski instructor qualification in Alpine Skiing or the desire to attain this
bilingual in English and French (desirable); good working skills in second language essential

According to Beau Soleil salary scale, dependent on qualifications and experience

Method of application

The teacher will be expected to take up his or her duties by September 2015

The closing date for applications is 13th April 2015

Interviews will take place during the week of 20th April in Switzerland and will include ski skills tests and a lesson observation

Main Job Purpose

The teacher at Beau Soleil plays a key role in the educational experience of the pupil. Their role is to share their enthusiasm for their subject and provide ways by which the pupil will make progress in this area. Their role in the classroom together with their contribution to the department to which they belong form a vital part in creating the dynamic learning environment to which the community of Beau Soleil aspires.

All teachers should be willing to engage in ongoing personal learning in order to fulfil their responsibilities to the pupils who study their subjects.

Key responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning: All teachers will secure and sustain effective teaching, evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of pupils’ achievements and set targets for improvement. They will:

embody a love of learning and engender it in colleagues and pupils alike,
set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils,
demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
deliver top quality lessons which embody the key elements recognized by the school to take forward the learning of the student, demonstrating within these a knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn and how this impacts on teaching
adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils, including those of high ability, those with English as an additional language, and those with special educational needs
