A new and exciting post has been created for an experienced and inspired teacher to enhance and develop sports provision at College Beau Soleil.
The Director of Sport will be an inspiring role model and an energetic, innovative and passionate leader. They will create a dynamic programme which will encourage aspiration and engagement in sports across the school and will also develop the pupils’ health, fitness and well-being.
Background
This opportunity has arisen following the restructure of the sports department to better match the needs of the school. This appointment will provide a timely opportunity for the school to review provision and priorities and to ensure a robust programme tailored to the needs of twenty first century pupils.
College Beau Soleil
The school is an international co-educational boarding school for 11-18 year located
in the Swiss Alps. The focus of the school is to balance a stimulating academic education with the wider opportunities to develop personal skills arising from the broad outdoor expedition, sports and service programme on offer. The school offers educational programmes in both English and French, offering the IGCSE and IB programme within the International Section and, for the French Section, the French Brevet and Baccalaureate programme. The students attending Beau Soleil come from up to 50 different countries and have high aspirations regarding their academic and university choices. The student body is currently 240 students.

Sports at Beau Soleil
The school is set in the Swiss Alps and therefore provides the opportunity to teach both conventional sports and alpine skiing. In the winter months the ski programme allows all students to train at least twice a week during the season; we wish to build further on our provision of ski race training. Physical Education (PE) is offered within the examination subjects at both IGCSE and within the French Baccalaureate. The school also offers a wide range of clubs from mountain biking to sailing.
The proposed programme of sports includes:
Basketball, Running, Swimming, Volleyball, Tennis, Indoor Climbing, Football, Dance, Badminton.
In addition, and separately managed, the school has an extensive outdoor education programme led by the Head of Outdoor Education.

The ski resort provides the opportunity for all students to follow a programme of a weekly ski day, weekend skiing, and training for Apline, X-C, Freestyle, etc.
Staffing:
2.5 full time trained teachers supported by professional coaches, a fitness coach and, in the ski season, ski school staff. The ski programme is managed in tandem with the Head of Outdoors.
The Role of the Director of Sports
To devise, articulate and communicate a clear strategy for the development of a wide ranging programme of sport and physical activity.
To inspire and engage pupils of all ages, abilities and aptitudes
To develop the physical wellbeing of all pupils
To ensure that traditional sports, skiing and health promoting activity all have a high profile position in the programme
Line Management
The role would be line managed by our Director of Co-Curriculum Education, with the quality of teaching overseen by the Director of Teaching and Learning
The post holder would be responsible for the line management of the PE teachers, and the school coaches and ski instructors
Job Description
The responsibilities of this post are wide ranging. The successful candidate will be expected to develop the role further in order to maximise its impact on the reputation of the School
1.Leadership
Develop and articulate a clear vision for future provision of sport and physical activity
Communicate the vision widely and frequently with parents, staff and school leadership
Develop a sporting culture which embraces participation, aspiration and performance
Inspire students to take part in, and value, all aspects of physical activity
Critically appraise trends and initiatives in the subject and constantly review provision in this light
Control the quality of the provision in all areas of the programme across the school
Promote the School, and support pupil recruitment, through sport
Work actively with the Heads of Sports in the regional Nord Anglia Education schools to develop a programme of inter regional (Europe) sports
2.Management
Manage the staffing of the department, including review of current staff provision, the appointment of new coaches and teachers as appropriate, together with induction and training processes
Efficiently distribute information to all relevant parties
Operate a suitable programme of minuted meetings and reviews.
Manage the sport based PR, including website updates
Ensure effective and compliant health and safety procedures
3.Teaching and Learning
Lead the development of a teaching and coaching philosophy across the School
Ensure and quality control consistently high standards of teaching and learning
Oversee planning and development mechanisms to ensure continued best practice
Oversee the management of teaching and assessment materials and processes
Oversee the effective teaching of examination PE, ideally with the ability to teach the examination courses
Be a role model of contemporary, inspiring practice
4.Competitive Programme
Produce an ambitious and inspiring programme of sporting competition at all levels
Produce an appropriate programme of training and coaching to prepare students for competition
Review current timetable and fixture levels and benchmark against other schools
Raise standards of performance
Inspire students to demonstrate commitment to training and competition
Ensure a performance pathway for able students
Maintain close relationships with other schools, outside clubs, and sports organisations
Produce, publish and circulate a suitable fixture list with an appropriate lead time
Lead, manage and accompany an inspiring programme of tours and residential camps
Maintain an appropriate system of rewards and recognition of achievement in sport
5.Health and Fitness Provision
Promote and support a programme of health promoting activity across all levels of the School
Engage all pupils to appreciate the value of exercise
Maintain a high visibility of the benefits of participation in physical activity
Inspire pupils to value their health
Maintain a suitable remedial programme to identify pupils whose health is at risk, and devise suitable interventions
6.Finance, Facilities and Equipment
Have overall responsibility for sports budget
Liaise with relevant staff to ensure all facilities are well presented
Ensure equipment is appropriate and well maintained
Ensure all policies and procedures are current and widely observed
Review facilities and advise on future developments
Risk assess activities and equipment and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety requirements
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be:
An outstanding leader with a real passion for inspiring young people to be involved in physical activity

An excellent teacher and coach who will inspire the department and model best practice
A skilled communicator able to convey the School’s commitment to, and ambition for, sport
An accomplished manager and administrator, skilled in the use of IT
A dedicated role model and ambassador for the School and its sport
Qualifications
PGCE or equivalent nationally recognized training as PE teacher is essential
Ski: competent skier with ski instructor qualification in Alpine Skiing or the desire to attain these.
Bilingual in English and French (desirable); good working skills in second language essential
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be paid according to the Beau Soleil pay scale.
Scheduled lessons and duties will generally be allocated over five and a half days (Monday to Saturday) although there may be variation depending on school needs.
